Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about starting therapy.

I’ve never talked to anyone. Does that mean I’m weak?+

No. Reaching out for support is a courageous choice. Therapy is a place to be heard, understand yourself more fully, and practice new ways of meeting what is difficult.

What is the difference between therapy and talking to a friend?+

Friends are important. Therapy offers a confidential, professional relationship with focused time to understand patterns and make intentional change.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?+

Medication can be useful for many people. Therapy can also help you understand the experiences, thoughts, feelings, and relationships that contribute to distress.

How long will therapy take?+

That depends on your goals, history, and the kind of support you need. Wendy will talk with you about a pace and plan that feels appropriate.
